Why
Penalize the Wives?

A dangerously strange verdict
was given by a maulvi of the NWFP assembly who
observed that all those legislators who had not
voted in line with the party dictates in the recently
held elections for the Senators must divorce their
wives! I simply fail to understand what is the
fault of the poor wives if their husbands did
not tow the party line and why must they (wives)
be punished for the crime of their husbands?
I admit my inadequacy in such Fiqahi matters and
would request the Federal Shariat Court to intervene
if the verdict is not in the true Islamic spirit,
before an irreparable harm is done to some innocent
lady.
