General Musharraf’s
Verbal Promise

Speaking on a US TV Channel, General Musharaf
said that he had only verbally pledged to part
with his uniform in December 2004. Obviously he
was implying that a verbal promise is not a promise.
Now let us see what the holy Qur’an and
Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) say about verbal promises.
In Sura Maaida; Verse 1, The Qur’an says,
“O, you who believe, you should fulfill
your promise”. Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) once
said, a “great individual is the one who
fulfils his promise”.
In the light of these sayings, where does General
Musharaf stand about his televised promise with
the nation?
