Poor Health
Facilities

According to the Annual Progress Report for 2005-06
released by the Finance Ministry more than 64
per cent people in the country are dissatisfied
with the standard of basic health services. The
report’s full findings were kept secret
for 18 months due to a very bleak picture perceived
by the general public about the state of governance
in the country.
While this report was withheld from public knowledge,
the Federal Health Minister, in his unique style
of good governance, was planning to build two
medical towers worth Rs 3.1 billions to attract
foreigners and to treat those locals who could
easily afford medical treatment abroad. The sad
part is, he materialized his plan within a week
of publication of this report by inaugurating
one such tower at PIMS in Islamabad. Either the
minister is genuinely not aware of the sufferings
of the poor from lack of basic health facilities
or he is hiding himself in a glasshouse not realizing
that someday, someone might cast a stone. After
all, God plays His role in mysterious ways.
