Restoration
of Democracy
By Dr. Syed Ehtisham

A seminar being organized under
the auspices of the Association of Pakistani Physicians
of North America (APPNA) in Florida at the end
of June 2007 will restore democracy in Pakistan.
Aitzaz Ahsan and Ahsan Iqbal will usher it in.
How simple and easy.
If leaders of independence movements had held
such discussions most of Asia and Africa would
still be ruled directly by the British, French,
Italians, the Dutch, Belgians and Portuguese.
While Pakistanis are facing atrocities, acceptance
of Tweedledum and Tweedledee is announced with
fanfare.
If the sponsors have any love for Pakistan they
will spend the funds in aid for the movement in
Pakistan. If they have passion for democracy they
would go to Pakistan, confront rulers, take risks,
brave the security agencies like Amna Buttar,
President of Asian American Network against abuse
did.
They are armchair mujahids. Let them own that
they are so.
By the end of June the fate of Mush should have
been decided. He will survive if the US decides
that he remains their best friend for the "war
against terror". They will get BB into a
marriage of convenience which will not be a new
thing for her in political life.
If the US has decided that Mush has outlived his
usefulness they might give a chance to another
round of musical chairs. Mullahs will share power
and Talibanization will get a formal niche in
the country. That will fit in perfectly with the
new realignment of US policy. Satraps in Saudi
Arabia, Jordan and Egypt have been told off to
support Al-Qaida elements to fight Shias. Pakistani
mullahs will come in handy.
To what depths of irrelevance can they descend?
