The Broken
Bowl!

According to a
news item foreign debt and liabilities showed
a downward trend from $ 36.532 in 2001 to 35.252b
in 2003. It was in those days when Mr Shaukat
Aziz proudly announced that his government had
broken the ‘borrowing bowl’.
The recent report gives a different picture all
together. It shows that from 2005 onwards the
debt spiraled up again to a record 38.42b by 2006
surpassing Mr. Nawaz Sharif’s era of $37b.
May I ask the prime minister if he really broke
the ‘bowl’ or replaced it with a bigger
one? It is a sorry picture of the economy where
the rich are getting richer and the poor are either
selling their children or killing them because
they can’t afford to feed them. Let’s
not forget those three innocent students from
Khushab who took their precious lives because
they couldn’t face their class fellows for
being poor.
