Who would speak for the underprivileged 81% population
of Pakistan if the PPP makes a deal with the government?
Musharraf’s eight years of absolute dictatorship
have left the lower middle class and the poor
without any voice and representation. Under this
suffocating dictatorship, the rich have grown
richer and the poor, poorer. It is indeed extremely
shortsighted on the part of Benazir to become
a part of the ruling aristocracy and abandon its
traditional power base. I am pained to imagine
the plight of the poor in a world where PPP joins
hands with the MQM and the Army. If the PPP makes
a deal, who would salvage Pakistan from the brutal
occupation of its own Army?
