The Editor’s observations in ‘Pakistani
Americans: Formidable Challenges, Poor Response’
(Oct 19, 07) are truly reflective of my own feelings
and burning desire .It is articulately written
and very well directed .I wish the ‘From
the Editor’ piece is read in large Pakistani-American
gatherings and the theme is repeatedly discussed
and reproduced.
We should follow enlightening leadership, no matter
where it comes from, and benefit from our own
as well as other nations’ experiences .The
greatest lesson of history that one can learn
comes from the struggle and achievements of the
Jewish nation which endured and successfully overcame
centuries of stiff opposition and atrocities .
We do acutely need Pakistani-American cultural
and political centers. We also need to create
an awakening in the community to forge unity.
We need to understand without any reservations
that America is our home and our children’s
home and instead of wholly worrying about Musharraf,
Mian Sahib and Benazir, we should also show interest
in American politics and actively participate
in it by joining either one of the two mainstream
parties. Unless we participate, our voices will
fall on deaf ears. Bobby Jindal is another shining
example to emulate. The California governor’s
astounding success too makes an inspiring story.
