Obama Wrong
about Pakistan Incursion

Barack Obama's suggestion that American troops
be committed to eradicate al-Qaeda in the areas
bordering Pakistan represents an immature view
of world politics, especially at a time when an
idea such as this serves to intensify the already
abysmal world opinion of American foreign policy.
Mr. Obama tried to garner votes but repelled thousands,
I am certain, for he seems to think he's playing
a video game. And a Readers' Forum letter writer's
egging on of Mr. Obama, and his concern for his
native India getting affected by Talibanization,
transparently reeks of the old antipathy between
India and Pakistan.
No country has given the sacrifice of its people,
both civilian and military, in the war against
terror that Pakistan has. The situation in Pakistan
is a very tenuous one, one best handled by the
Pakistan government, not by American drones or
troops.
It is an established fact that in 2006 there were
two attacks inside sovereign Pakistan territory
by American drones that flattened two madrassas,
killing children as young as 8 years old. The
Red Mosque crisis that occurred in Pakistan last
month, and the militancy that has intensified
throughout Pakistan since, is the direct result
of those two attacks.
Pakistan turned 60 on August 14, and all speeches
by high government officials had one theme: No
foreign power would be allowed to attack Pakistan.
America is the sole superpower of the world and
in its imperial hubris feels no compunction whatsoever
about invading other nations, even when they pose
no threat.
One issue remains. The United States is a signatory
to the United Nations Charter, which protects
the sovereignty of nations and classifies the
unprovoked terrorizing and bombing of other nations
as illegal, especially when those nations specifically
decline American "help."
