Pakistan after a Quarter of a Century

Kindly allow me to share with your readers the views of a concerned Pakistan residing in the USA.
Two very important elements that would need serious attention and concrete actions are those of the population explosion and diminishing water resources. The existing resources are certainly not going to sustain the growth in population and reinforce economic development. All the victorious political stalwarts are focused upon when the General quits. None of them has ever either during the election campaign, nor now after they have won their political battle, ever uttered a meaningful statement which should make us think what are some of the non-political issues of the country' survival after a quarter of a century. They are not religious issues or the so-called independence of the judiciary, they are the hard economic facts.

Political Alliance
More than a week has come to pass by since the elections were held but the post-elections ‘jod tod’ has not been finalized as yet. No clear cut nominees for the PM and CMs have been announced yet by the PPP and the PML(N) – two major partners of the coalition. Are there any insurmountable differences between the two? This is causing concern in the minds of the general public who had expected the alliance leaders to work hand in glove with each other and decide such matters on priority. One hopes that the ‘friendship’ between the PPP and PML(N) is not forced by the age old adage of “Enemy’s enemy is a friend”. If so is the state while the ‘enemy’ is around, how much would be the love lost between the two with Musharraf gone?
