Dear Mr. President

Dear Mr. President
So sorry to hear
The long bitter journey’s
End slowly draws near
Forgive your trespasses
Coax away all the guilt
The rigid proud ego
Is threatening to wilt
As twilight comes closer
The eagerness rises
With dreams of repair
And pleasant surprises
We bid farewell to you
And eight years of decay
We send you off with care
And disguise our dismay
Assign blame to no one
It was bigger than you
Attempting to forsake the false
And simply embellish the true
So dear Mr. President
The penniless pocket sighs
The tortured eyes tear
As they say their goodbyes
To eight years of struggle
Of innocent spilled blood
Our unavenged dead
Will weep in a flood
The disgraced nation
That hangs its head in shame
Will attempt to defend you
And try to salvage your fame
Better days are ushered in
By he who may excel
Wherever you have failed
Yet still we wish you well
Pack away your mistakes
Take with you this legacy
And we will never forget you
In the land of the formerly free
