Promises, Promises, and Promises

“Masses to get basic life facilities: Gilani” was the bold headline in a local daily on 24 November 2010. The PM went on to say that the government attached high priority to providing basic necessities of life to the people at their doorsteps, particularly to those who live in the remote and under-developed parts of the country.
My dear Prime Minister, May you live as long as you wish and be the Prime Minister all along, ameen summa ameen. Please do not bother yourself with the “door steps”, just provide the facilities and we would gladly walk, tread and tramp for miles on end to get them. We promise you and hope Your Excellency would also keep your promises, lest we are compelled to bewail,
Tere waade par jiye ham to ye jaan jhoot jaanaa
Keh khushee se mar na jaate agar eitabaar hota.
