PTI's Financial Scruples

This is apropos of Dr M Taqi’s article (Pakistan Link 19 Nov).
It is unfortunate that the Dr Taqi has tried to spread the seeds of suspicion, in a mischievous way, to malign Imran Khan whose integrity is spotless. The people of Pakistan and overseas Pakistanis donate billions of rupees responding to his appeals, with full confidence that the donated funds are in safe hands.
I am really disappointed that Dr Taqi has used the phrase “American taxpayers’ money” to confuse the readers. By any definition, American taxpayers’ money is the money collected and controlled by the US Treasury. How can personal money in the pocket of any individual be called taxpayers’ money? If an individual American spends his own money for an extravagant holiday, will Dr Taqi accuse him of squandering American taxpayers’ money? If the answer is no, then why should personal money donated to PTI be called taxpayers’ money?
Imran Khan has proclaimed that he will be a ‘ but shikan’ (a destroyer of idols). I am sure, he will also become Iqbal’s ‘ mehmar e harum’ (a builder of harum), answering Iqbal’s clarion call in Pyam e Mashriq:
Mehmar e Harum baaz ba tahmeer e jahan khaiz.
The nation is ready to embark upon re-construction of a welfare state based on fairness and justice for all, under the leadership of Imran Khan.
