A Disturbing Statement
By Dawar Naqvi

On October 8, ex-home minister of Sindh, Mr. Zulfiqar Mirza, appeared in a talk show. Once again he used very caustic and biting language against some political parties and their leaders. In this world he and only late PPP leadership comprising Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and Mr. Zardari are angels and the rest of the politicians are totally corrupt.  We are getting used to his senseless speeches and press conferences.

But this time he crossed all limits airing views that could not be acceptable to a Muslim. He compared his situation with that of Prophet (PBUH) and said:

After facing difficulties the Prophet (pbuh) migrated to Medina but I am high-tech, I will not migrate. http://getpakistan.tv/2011/10/headline-mirzas-diatribe-against-mqm/
What did he mean by making this claim? Is he better than the Prophet (pbuh)?

Why did the media ignore such a statement? Where are the well-known anchormen Hamid Mir, Kamran Khan, Shazeb Khanzada, Nagam Setti, Kashif Abbasi, and others? We did not hear from them on this fallacious statement.

For the last few months Zulfiqar Mirza had been using improper language in his speeches. In one of his press conferences he swore with the Holy Qur’an on his head in a manner which is considered inappropriate by the majority of Islamic scholars. Narrated 'Umar:
The Prophet said, "If anybody has to take an oath, he should swear only by Allah." The people of Quraish used to swear by their fathers, but the Prophet said, "Do not swear by your fathers." - Comments from Scholar Shaykh Junaid www.riyadhul-uloom.org

A Muslim, if he has to take an oath, should only take an oath on Allah. The Qazi can ask him to take an oath on the Qur’an, if necessary. But, oaths should only be taken when serious matters are being discussed . Using foul language is haram.

I humbly request the Chief Justice of Pakistan to issue summons to Mr. Zulfiqar Mirza on his statement.
