Need to Understand the Meaning of the Holy Qur’an

Suicide bombings and ruthless killings of innocent individuals are on the rise in Pakistan. On most occasions, religious extremists take the responsibility of committing the horrific acts. I humbly invite the attention of all to the following Qur’anic verses:

Surah 60, Verses 8: Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth those who are just.

9: Allah only forbids you, with regard to those who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you out of your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning to them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances), that do wrong.

Killing innocent beings (irrespective of Muslim or non-Muslim individuals) is one of the biggest sins in Islam. Killing one innocent person is like killing the whole of humanity.

Qur’an says in Surah 5, Verse 32:

“On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our messengers with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land.”

Hopefully, these verses of the Qur’an make it clear to all whom we should fight and whom we should not. Islam does not allow the killing of innocent people, Muslim or non-Muslim, and teaches us to treat all well.

I urge all Muslims to read the Holy Qur’an with meaning. Reading the holy book without understanding its message will not help us in our daily life.
