Suo Motu Case

“Shahrukh Jatoi put in death cell on SC Orders” read the headlines of “The Express Tribune” of February 18, 2018. Sharjeel Memon and Inam Akbar were also ordered back to jail from hospital. Another such case is that of Nihal Hashmi who went to hospital probably a day after he was taken to jail.
It is a well-known common secret that all rich and influential persons, whether convicts or UTPs (Under Trial Prisoners) ,manage to get shifted to the hospital soon after they are taken to the prison on one decorous pretext or another. AAZ is reported to have spent most of his 8 or 11 years imprisonment in posh hospitals.
I think mere shifting of them back to jail from hospitals is not enough. A high-powered Medical Board should examine each case and if any malafide is detected then the Prison Medical Officer referring, and the hospital doctor admitting the prisoner, should be given exemplary punishment which could act as a severe deterrent for others.
