The ABC’s of Power Saver Rewards
By Mahomed Khan

As a leader of American Muslims for Sustainability, I work round the clock to bring communities together to ptomote sustainable development and environmental stewardship. Improving the environment and encouraging individual actions that benefit us all is a complex proposition, but I often find that in all such strivings simple solutions work best.

We have partnered with Power Saver Rewards to encourage the Pakistani American community in California to save energy during a Flex Alert. When you register for the Power Saver Rewards program and reduce your energy use during a Flex Alert - at a time when the electric grid is stressed - you receive a credit on your electric bill and help prevent a power outage.

We need more people to register for this free program to help spread the benefits and prevent possible power outages. I have come up with a solution: the ABCs of Power Saver Rewards.

A: ALWAYS REGISTER first. Unless you go to PowerSaverRewards.org and sign up, you can’t participate in this program.

B: BE PREPARED for a Flex Alert. Whenever a Flex Alert is issued, you should reduce your energy use to get a bill credit and help prevent a possible power outage. If you don’t you won’t receive the full benefits of Power Saver Rewards.

C: CREDIT BACK when you save energy. Whenever you reduce your energy use during a Flex Alert by turning off unneeded lights and holding off on using major appliances, you can get a bill credit on your electric bill.

There you have it: the ABCs of Power Saver Rewards. To recap: always register first, be prepared for a Flex Alert, and get cash back by way of a bill credit when you save energy during a Flex Alert.
